WHAT IS A HOT STONE MASSAGE
Hot stone massage is the practice of using carefully heated and specifically selected high-quality stones to apply heat to targeted muscle tissue. The earliest use of hot-stones to facilitate health in the body was in India about 5,000 years ago. During a hot stone session at Rejuvenate Massage, heated stones are placed on the back, neck, arms, hands, legs, or feet. The targeted application of heat increases blood flow while at the same time relaxing muscle tissue. The softening of the muscle tissue allows the therapist to get deeper into the muscle to bring about increased suppleness, range of motion, and pain relief during the massage. The heated stones can also be used with the massage strokes to facilitate a deeply relaxing massage.
BENEFITS OF HOT STONE MASSAGE
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A HOT STONE MASSAGE
During a hot stone massage at Rejuvenate Massage hot stones are applied to the back, neck, hands, arms, legs, and/or feet during the course of a Swedish or Deep Tissue/Therapeutic massage. The therapist may use the stones during the massage strokes or leave the stones in place depending on the needs/wishes of the client.
The stones are heated to a comfortable temperature. At no time during the massage should the stones feel too hot or uncomfortable. Cold stones may also be utilized if the client has inflammation that can be addressed during the course of the massage. Cold stones also have the benefit of increasing circulation and can be useful to facilitate recovery from injury.
